Hyde business teams up with Litter Hub to help keep Tameside tidy

A COMMUNITY-MINDED business has joined the drive to keep Tameside tidy.

Staff from Hyde-based Outdoor and Sports Company Ltd held a litter picking day along the Trans Pennine Trail behind their offices on Dawson Street and are now looking to make it a regular event.

The company is committed to managing an ethical and environmental business and was inspired by their work with one of their community partners, Trash Free Trails, whose mission is to reduce litter on trails and wild places by 75% by 2025 and reconnect people with nature through purposeful adventure.

Organisers borrowed equipment from a Litter Hub based at Aqua Nurture to make a real difference in their neighbourhood. Tameside Council’s Litter Hubs Network enables residents or groups to book out free equipment, including high vis jackets, litter pickers and black bags, from community places. Participants are given a safety checklist and asked to sign out the equipment. Council officers then arrange for the rubbish to be disposed of appropriately.

Councillor Denise Ward, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Environmental Services, said: “It’s great to see staff from Outdoor and Sports Company doing their bit for Tameside. I’d like to thank everyone involved for facilitating and taking part in this litter pick and I hope they’re able to make it a regular event.

“It’s fantastic that businesses and the community are coming together to help make Tameside a better place for everyone. It shows that the Our Streets campaign is bringing people together for a cleaner and safer borough.”

A handy chart has been created listing the Litter Hub venues, the times they’re open and the facilities and activities available.
